Isle of Man Camping: What to Bring

So, you’ve decided on an Isle of Man Camping trip. Your flight or ferry is booked, and you have (hopefully) secured your accommodation.

Whether you’re a first-time camper or an experienced tent dweller, our handy guide will remind you of all the essential items to bring to make your stay as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

What to bring to Manx Tents

1. Sleeping equipment

First and foremost, you need to consider what you’ll sleep on and in. You’re in luck, because Manx Tents provide all of our campers with real beds and bed linen; saving you a lot of hassle!

Depending on how deep a sleeper you are, you may want to consider earplugs and/or eyeshades to ensure you get a good night’s sleep.

And don’t forget warm PJ’s! You won’t want to be faffing for clothes in the middle of the night if nature calls!

2. Warm rainproof clothes

No matter what time of year it is, you can never guarantee it won’t rain. And trust us; there is nothing worse than being cold and wet while camping.

Rather than bring big, heavy coats that can be uncomfortable to wear and take up lots of space, it’s better to layer lightweight, waterproof, breathable clothes so you’re ready for any possible weather conditions.

3. Food and drink

It’s a good idea to find out what facilities are available at the campsite you’re staying at. Is there a shop onsite or nearby? Do they allow you to cook your own food? Do they serve breakfast?

For example, at our campsite we provide a free continental breakfast and we have a bar. We’re also in walking distance to cafeterias, shops, and a bus route. However, not all campsites have the same facilities so it’s important to know what’s on offer to determine how much food and drink you need to bring with you.

4. Torch and batteries

While most of us have smartphones with an inbuilt torch, it’s always a good idea to bring one with you just in case your phone dies. Spare batteries are also a good idea. As the saying goes, it’s much better to be over prepared than under.

Again, some campsites (like ours) will provide torches for their guests so it’s worth finding out whether this is an essential item you need to pack or if you can save space for something else.

5. Essential electronics, including chargers

Electronics can help enhance your holiday – whether it’s an iPad to catch up on live coverage of the races or your camera to capture the perfect shot of your favourite rider, make sure you pack them, and their chargers.

Although it’s unlikely you’ll have plug sockets in your tent (!) you will find places onsite or out and about to charge up your items. We have a secure charging station onsite to make sure our guests are able to keep everything at full power.

6. First aid kit

Bandages, plasters, and painkillers are always good to have to hand to save you from a scrape, sprain or hangover. These little items hardly take up any space, but could make a big impact as to how much you enjoy your holiday.

Although you could probably purchase them during the day without much drama, it’s good to know you have them with you for night-time emergencies

7. Hygiene products

Whatever you need to stay clean and fresh, make sure you bring it! Nobody wants to share a tent with a smelly, sweaty person so get your shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, and anything else you use to look, feel, and smell your best.

Many campsites have shower facilities but, again, it’s worth asking before you assume they do.

8. Camping chairs

Sitting on the cold (and sometimes wet) ground isn’t too fun, which is why camping chairs make a big difference. There are several lightweight, folding chairs on the market that can easily be carried on your bike or in hand luggage. It’s well worth the investment as they can be used for numerous outdoor activities over and over again.

Camping is a fun and cost-effective way to experience the TT races. The atmosphere at a campsite surrounded by other bike fans is second to none.

We still have a couple of tents available for TT fortnight but they’ll be filling up fast. Book now and get ready for the most thrilling motorcycle race in the world.
